Sofia Shabbir, MD
I was born and grew up in a province of Pakistan called Balochistan. It is the most underdeveloped part of Pakistan where access to education and particularly health care was limited, and political instability marred the region. This inspired me to become a doctor as I saw firsthand the struggles of those in my community to access basic human rights such as healthcare. I completed my medical education at Bolan University of Medical and Health Sciences.
I am passionate about working with rural and underserved communities, providing my patients with holistic care, and focusing on preventative medicine and community health education to change patient trajectories and not just treat their disease. After finishing my residency, I see myself practicing as a PCP for underserved communities in Alaska.
Outside of this, I am a wife and mom to my two kids, Alina and Ismael. I love spending my time with my family and friends. I also love spending time in nature, and I am very excited to explore all the adventures that Alaska has to offer, starting first with learning how to ski!
