Eric Nguyen, MD
What’s up everyone! Eric Nguyen here. I grew up in sunny southern CA, got my Cell and Developmental Biology BS at University of California, Santa Barbara, and got my MD at Creighton University School of Medicine. Now being in Alaska, I have access to some of the world’s most breathtaking nature. No smog or traffic here. Just 360 degrees of fantastic landscape. There were a few twists and turns to get here, but I can’t be any more grateful.
Being initially interested in the procedural side of medicine, I was drawn to surgery and did a little more than a year of General Surgery. I subsequently found myself on a different path – now more fulfilled than ever getting to truly know my patients and learning to treat them in a more multifactorial and holistic manner. I feel lucky to train here given my interest in mental health and addiction medicine, as the patient population here unfortunately has some of the highest needs I have ever seen. Furthermore, the wilderness medicine integration into our program here is a huge cherry on top!
In my free time, I like to lift weights/run, train BJJ, learn about the most random topics – from eastern philosophy/religion to history and modern geopolitics, or attend electronic music events. If I’m feeling spicy, I’ll even attempt one of mom’s traditional Vietnamese dishes. Definitely not the same, but it’ll still replicate that home-feeling!
