What is the best thing about teaching at AKFMR?

My favorite part of coming to work everyday is that I am constantly surrounded by more compassionate, brilliant, and resourceful people than myself. My time as an AKFMR resident prepared me well, but the depth of talent and passion in our residency and clinic is so vast that three years cannot fully exhaust all the opportunities for learning and growth. Every day I come to work I am challenged to be a more discerning clinician, a better teacher, a more effective leader, and a more supportive colleague.

How did you end up in Alaska?

I came to Alaska on my honeymoon and fell in love with rugged beauty of the landscape. When I returned for my residency interview six months later, I was hooked– full scope family practice, rural training, and an emphasis on social medicine? Sign me up! After three years of residency training in Alaska, I cannot fathom practicing anywhere else.
