Netana Hotimsky, DO

Netana grew up as the oldest of three children in Grand Junction, Colorado, where she and her siblings began competing in alpine ski racing and bike racing.  She continued to compete in both sports through high school and her earliest interest in medicine stemmed from studying physiology as it related to cycling.  Netana began college at Colorado Mesa University in Grand Junction and transferred to the University of Vermont in Burlington prior to her junior year.  At UVM, she completed her Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry with a minor in Pharmacology.  She continued to race both mountain and road bikes throughout college, earning the Eastern Collegiate Cycling Conference’s Division I Mountain Bike Season Omnium and Gravity titles in the fall of her junior year.  Following college, Netana worked in residences for the developmentally disabled in Grand Junction while continuing to compete for an elite women’s road racing team out of Denver.  After spending many years training and racing, she decided to leave competitive cycling to be able to spend more time enjoying the outdoors through hiking, mountain biking, camping and skiing.  She spent a couple of winters coaching junior alpine ski racers with the Mammoth Mountain Ski Team and in the intervening summer she guided mountain biking trips for a guest ranch in Western Montana. The small Rocky Mountain town was in need of medical professionals and Netana entered medical school inspired to become the kind of physician that could meet those needs. When it came time to choose a residency program, she felt that it was hard to beat Alaska for learning to practice rural medicine in snowy  mountains.  Netana is excited to have “real winters” again and explore the greater Anchorage area with her boyfriend Patrick and their dog Champ.
