Megan was born in the high desert of western Colorado. She was an inquisitive child who loved spending hours in the warm sun catching lizards, identifying animal tracks, and digging for fossils. After her excavation sites turned up dry and after being informed that living in the woods did not constitute a job, she decided to pursue a future in healthcare. Megan attended Colorado State University and majored in Sports Medicine, where she developed a love of human physiology, and a strong distaste for standardized testing. It took two years to reconcile this conflict, in which she divided her time between adventuring outdoors and being one of the most over-educated, yet under qualified coffee baristas in town. An opportunity to develop a biofeedback program for a behavioral health clinic reignited her love of medicine. She came to terms with a lifetime of multiple choice questions, and she was accepted to medical school at RVUCOM in Denver. Megan was active in her school’s Rural and Wilderness Medicine Honors Track, a rigorous program designed to prepare students for primary care in rural communities. Despite being bucked off a horse and failing to catch a fish with a paper clip, she loved being part of the healthcare team of rural and medically underserved communities. She was naturally drawn to AKFMR for its emphasis on providing full spectrum care to the individuals and families of the diverse and at times isolated communities of Alaska. Having met the necessary criteria for residency, including having a husband with a beard and owning a husky, she is excited to begin the next stage of her journey in the last frontier.
