Marya Spurling

Marya grew up on a small island off the coast of Maine, and while her heart is back in rural Maine, she came to Alaska for the rural training and new experiences. She studied Spanish and Biology in college and returned home to work aboard her father’s lobster boat for a year before attending the Tufts University Maine Track for medical school. She hopes to return to rural Maine to practice primary care, including obstetrics. She is often frustrated by the US medical system and hopes to help change it for the better as a family physician by improving access to the underserved and helping to change health policy. She enjoys hiking, kayaking, canoeing, cross-country skiing, birding, knitting, and most recently, silk painting. Marya is also a newlywed, having recently married Tor, the Viking man of her dreams.
