Devery was born and raised in Napa, California and spent her youth crushing grapes with her bare feet (not really) from her grandparent’s vineyard (really), to help produce the family’s very own award-winning* Cabernet Sauvignon (*debatable). After setting her sights on Southern California for college, she earned a partial scholarship to the University of Redlands where she worked hard to obtain a Bachelors of Science in biology while still managing to be a varsity athlete, study abroad in Australia, and squeeze in double minors in poetry and chemistry. She then left the citrus orchards of Redlands for the nearby citrus orchards of Loma Linda and worked for two years as an Emergency Medicine Scribe. When it came time to leave the citrus orchards for good, Devery packed up her beloved tiny dog (who goes by the name of Doogie Howser) and headed into the sprawling metropolis of Los Angeles to attend medical school at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA. Her time at UCLA was peppered with a wide variety of activities and interests, making it enormously clear that family medicine was the only specialty that could contain her enthusiasm. Given her desire to provide full-spectrum care to rural populations, and her inclination to flee metropolitan areas in search of fresh air, tall mountains, and visible seasonal transitions, Alaska was an obvious first choice. In (or around) Anchorage you may find her and Doogie Howser fly fishing, hiking, snowshoeing, skiing, snowboarding, or rock climbing in every spare moment. If she earns her pilot’s license by the time she finishes residency, she will see what she can do about giving applicants unforgettable arial interview experiences.*
