Amy was raised on an orchard in the Hood River Valley of Oregon where she grew up climbing trees, playing soccer, downhill skiing, and avoiding moving irrigation pipes. After graduating from Whitman College in Walla Walla, Washington, she moved across the country to immerse herself in policy and politics in Washington, DC. After getting her fill of free food and garb at Capitol Hill receptions, she returned to Portland, Oregon to work in government relations for a hospital system. Her decision to then attend medical school was based on a long-standing fascination with the workings of the human body and a commitment to service. She attended Pacific Northwest University of Health Sciences in Yakima, Washington, where she was active in the Student Government Association and the Family Practice interest group. She was drawn to the AKFMR for its emphasis on rural medicine and curriculum designed to prepare residents to feel comfortable and confident working in any setting. She is interested in full spectrum family medicine, with a special interest in adult inpatient medicine. In her spare time she enjoys reading, learning how to cross-country ski, and spending time with her significant other and 11 year-old lab mix.
