Katherine Byrd
Katherine Byrd, also known as Katie Byrd to friends and family, grew up in rural Southeastern Tennessee. This is where her love for medicine and rural communities started. She attended college at East Tennessee State University where she studied Psychology. She then transitioned to NYITCOM in Arkansas where she completed medical school and earned a Master’s Degree in Neuromuscular Sciences. During medical school, her love of rural, underserved communities continued to be nourished. Her interests in medicine grew to include academic medicine, women’s health, and community medicine.
When applying to residency, she couldn’t have imagined a better place or program to train to be a full-scope family medicine physician than the Alaska Family Medicine Residency Program. She is looking forward to learning more about the culture and becoming a part of the community.
Outside of medicine, Katie enjoys spending time with her bulldog (Olive) and her calico (Seriously – her proper name, which she fully earned). She also enjoys needle work, cooking, and baking. She makes a mean pumpkin pie.
