Kristen graduated from UT Austin Pharmacy School with a BS in Pharmacy and was a clinical pharmacist for 12 years prior to making the decision to attend medical school. She graduated from University of Texas Medical Branch-Galveston School of Medicine in 2006 and completed her residency at Providence Alaska Family Medicine Residency in 2009. Following her residency, Kristen served as 4th year Chief Resident the following year and then moved to Dillingham, Alaska, where she practiced rural medicine (off the road system) for 3 years. She returned to the AKFMR as full-time faculty in March of 2013 and enjoys practicing full-scope family medicine, including OB, here at the residency. She is happy to be back, teaching and learning from the residents.
Kristen lives in Anchorage with her husband and two boys. They now consider themselves “Alaskans.” As a family, they enjoy playing soccer, kayaking, and camping outdoors. She is very interested in wilderness medicine and has taken several trips with her “Women in medicine” friends, including a 7-day kayak trip down the Tikchik Lakes after being dropped off in a float plane.
